Why I Do What I Do

Over the last year and a half, I have made it a priority to be healthy and fit. This past summer, I decided to pay it forward and become a Beachbody Coach.

Why?
I believe women need to be able to find their confidence in their own bodies. Our daughters need us to show them that we are comfortable enough in our own bodies to wear leggings as pants, instead of considering jeans that either fall down or dig in as the “comfortable pants.” Our children need to see our strength, courage, and determination to care for ourselves. We need to feel comfortable enough to be intimate with our partners and enjoy it! Because we all know, our heads are not going to be in that space if we are focused on criticizing our bodies. We need to dare to be ourselves and love ourselves as we are. Once that starts happening, the love and joy radiates to those we love the most and so forth. Also, there is something about trusting our bodies and nurturing our bodies that can really elevate our faith in all our endeavors. It’s hard to describe, but it is so awesome to experience and to see other people experience it in their own lives!

This is why I coach! I feel amazing, and I want to help other women do that for themselves!!! We’ve all heard the phrase, it takes a village, and it does! It feels so hard to be healthy and fit in this world right now. There are so many reasons to let our bodies go: fast food, our children need us, who has the time, the house is a mess, Facebook scrolls! But I think that makes it more necessary to be able to take time for ourselves and thrive in this world instead of just going through the motions. And we all need help to do that!!! We need our village, our tribe!!! People that love us because we love ourselves! People that support us and our need to be able to feel comfortable in our own skin. People that are fighting in the trenches alongside us. That is what I strive to provide! I hold challenge groups monthly so that people can bond with other people trying to make a healthy lifestyle work in this fast paced world of ours.

I hope that I can inspire others to invest in themselves. That’s truly what this is about. Spending a little time, money, and energy on ourselves daily in a positive, healthy way now. Making health and fitness a lifestyle now, to avoid paying insurance companies and doctors offices and the feeling of regret later. No excuse is greater than your own happiness and wellbeing! And those two things are a far greater gift to your children than martyrdom could ever be! This is a lesson I’m having to learn for myself. It’s absolutely amazing how awesome our day goes when I am feeling like enough just because I’ve taken the time to put my own mask on first. <3

Advent With the Fairies

My sister bought our girl a fairy door this fall with promises of fairy visits at night. Well, the fairies have been silent since the night they magically put up their own door. So, I thought Advent would be a great time to let them make their presence known.

I also want to have a way for my daughter to count down the days until Christmas or the solstice without relying on chocolate. Last year we did an advent spiral out of salt dough. This year we are celebrating with the fairies. 😀

They showed up on the afternoon of December first and left a gift outside the fairy door along with a verse we are using in our Waldorf homeschool curriculum. I'm glad they showed up in the afternoon that first day, because it set the precedent that fairies don't operate on a set schedule everyday. 😉

I have included below what we have done so far and a few days ahead if you're looking for inspiration. I used the Zapfino font in pages, because it looked handwritten and lovely. I searched google images for coloring pages corresponding with the activity or gift of the day and pasted the image to the doc before printing, so that it would give her a clue as to what is written, since she's not yet reading. The Sundays won't line up exactly in future years, so some days may need to be tweaked.

I will write up some posts describing the activities, and I will make sure to post the links here. I will also edit as I come up with the rest of the final week's activities to include those here.

December 14 (pine cones and instructions to make bird feeders)
Birds give us feathers for decoration, beautiful songs to hear, and even help pollinate our plants!Use these pine cones, peanut butter, and bird seed to feed your backyard birds. Tell the birds thank you for all they give us.

December 15 (modeling wax with instructions for making an animal for the advent wreath)
Bees give us honey to flavor our foods and help us feel better if we are sick. They help us by pollinating many of the plants that give us food to eat. They give us beeswax for candles, crayons, cosmetics, and even modeling wax. Use some beeswax to shape an animal for your advent wreath.

December 16 (instructions to play with and make gifts for pets)
Cats offer companionship and bring much joy. Take some time to play with your cats today. Maybe even make them a gift for the holidays!

December 17 (instructions to make a brush pile for small animals in yard)
Wild animals need a warm place to shelter in the winter. Use your wreath clippings from last year and any other branches in your yard to build a small brush pile for small animals and insects to use during the cold.

December 21
Today is the Winter Solstice! Take some time today to get outside and enjoy the sunshine and nature. Who knows? You may even spot signs of us fairies!

Girlie's Eleventh Month

We are only one month away from her birthday, and it has been a big month! She cut three teeth this month. We took a spill and she has her first (and hopefully only) cast. She learned to crawl with said cast, and that was enough of gross motor development for one month, so she turned to her social emotional development. She is giving kisses when we ask for them. She is kissing, hugging, and soothing her baby doll by patting her back. She says Jak-Jak, Da-Da, and ticka-ticka (tickle-tickle). She learned to wave and play peekaboo (both with her hands and by hiding behind a blanket, towel, or piece of clothing). She's still as smiley and busy as ever. Her cast isn't holding her back!

Think fast!

Always dancing!

Just chillin'

Jak-Jak!

Girlie's Tenth Month

It has been a month of growth and milestones. She cut her two front teeth just in time for Christmas! She took a break from trying to crawl and stand at the beginning of the month and decided to clap instead. We have been clapping about everything since then. She claps when she sees or hears others clapping or when we say, "yay!" It is a very proper clap too. She holds her left hand out in front of her and claps with her right hand. If she's tired, she tries to suck her thumb while she claps.
She also learned to sit herself up on her own from laying down. She first demonstrated this milestone right after I told someone she had not yet done it. She still likes to prove her mommy wrong. I was hoping it was going to just be from the womb...
She saved her big milestone for the end of the month: she started crawling yesterday evening! She went for the remote control while hanging out with Robert. Fortunately, he called me into the living room (I was in the kitchen cooking dinner) so I could see it too. We were a very content family sitting down to our slightly cool dinner last night.
She also had a blast celebrating her first Yule and Christmas. She enjoyed opening and playing with all of her gifts. I don't know if it's all the excitement, the milestones, or just a change in pattern, but she has started to take long naps during the day. They last an hour or two as opposed to her usual 30 to 45 minute naps.
The funniest thing she has started doing this month is holding on to something new and growling/yelling with excitement. There have been many opportunities for that expression of excitement this holiday season.
Teeth!

Her length has now surpassed the width of the crib.

The Stink Eye!

10 months already?!

This is exhausting work!

Peeking around Daddy!

Time out for teething on the crib!

Think fast!

Sticking her tongue out helps her to pull up.
Tongue!
Tongue!
No body knows the trouble I've seen...
